When one visits the private game reserves of South Africa it is rare to see anything of a baboon except it's rear end as it lopes away!
In Kruger Park however, there is enough space empty of human habitation, for the baboons to have to live naturally without reliance on human provided food.......
Many tourist roads in Kruger run through baboon habitats, so they have become relatively relaxed with vehicles and we can often get wonderful photos of them, especially when they are being social early in the morning or late afternoon.
This particular troop on the Timbavati River provided us some entertainment last week. I could have spent hours watching them.......

Oh that dear little creature learning how the adults groom each other, how absolutely priceless, and pin sharp - beautiful picture. You must be building up a wonderful portfolio of pictures - I can imagine you publishing them all one day...

Baboons are awesome creatures ... to me they're the ultimate survivors ... they're found in the most inhospitable areas ...

Maybe we "connect" with baboons so well because they seem so like us but with none of our social / programmed inhibitions?

When they interact with me the situation is a little bit less interesting. I remember a big male jumping on my table to steal a 24 eggs box... Big theeth,really big...

I found the baboons in Mana Pools very very clever - they knew how to open car doors (if one was stupid enough to leave them unlocked)and they stole all our bread and vegetables. They didn't like the peri peri peanuts however, and left those scattered everywhere inside the car! The next day we locked the car doors and the baboon(s) left a very large "pooh" on the car bonnet!
Very human like......

We made a very nice joke to the one who took away our eggs: we left for him a peri peri sandwich...
It was interesting to see how much water it was able to drink after eating it... Very interesting :)
