Dazzled by zebra

Of all the unusual collective names for animals, I think my favourite must be the "dazzle" of zebra. These stunning looking animals are usually high on the "must see" list of my guests and I am always happy to go looking for them.

Kruger has a substantial population of the Plains zebra (Equus burchellii) but as they prefer open areas they are most numerous on the central plains, and a bit harder to find in the bush country of the south and north.

Here are just a few of my favourite photos, taken over the last 3 years, for you to enjoy........

I shall definitely go around saying "Do you know what the collective noun for zebras is?" What a lovely expression.
And your zebra pics are stunning - I've never seen a zebra foal either in the wild or the zoo, so that's really special.

Hi Caroline, thanks for the comment. Some of my older posts also have photos of baby zebra - hit the tag/label "zebra" and you might find them.

Found one from Dec 2010 (road to Satara). They're so perfect! On my one visit to Kruger in 1984 when I saw a 'dazzle' of them, I was struck by how different they were to horses. They were noisy, nipped at each other and pranced about a lot - and seemed to squeal rather than neigh. However, come to think of it I expect horses are like this in the wild...
What a unique position you're in to be able to take so many stunning photographs. Really enjoy them.

Yes Jackie - you are lucky that you live close to the part of Kruger where they are most common :)

I love zebras. I've taken a few pics myself in Kenya on safari. I didn't know they were called a 'dazzle' in a group though. It's good to learn new things.
